Inspiration

start: 1840 02092015

In the name of Allah

I was reading a friend's blog, it was pretty. It reminds me of a feel when I used to blog in the old days. Blog hunting and blog hopping during those nights that I can't sleep.

So, right now, I'm trying to finish a book, 'What I talk about when I talk about running" by Haruki Murakami. It was a decent book, suggested by a good friend of mine, Elia Nadira. It is just a normal book, talking about running, marathon, ultramarathon etc. I was reading a chapter when the writer actually talks about how he writes to keep his thoughts in order. I was a little bit absorbed with this idea 'cause the very reason why I decided to not write is because my thoughts are all over the places and I just can't help having my stuffs mixed up.

So, when he mentioned that he wrote to make his thoughts in clearer view and in order, I started to have doubts, no, not doubts, but hope. Yes, I have to have hope. I started to believe that I can try to organise my thoughts if I continue to write. I will never ever be able to organise my thoughts if I do nothing to do that. I mean, if writing is one of the practice to keep your thoughts in proper order, why should I stay away from it? Hence, here I am; trying to write a good sensible blog post about how I decided to write again.

A couple of days ago, I feel asleep on the couch in the living room, I guessed I was just too tired from classes and stuffs. So, the next morning, after waking up for Fajr, I did not go back to sleep, I decided to have breakfast and while having breakfast, I watched Nouman Ali Khan’s video on ‘Discovering your identity’. In the video, he was talking based on a verse from Al-Isra’, verse 83. Here’s the link to the video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV4LiyUwSbg.

It was a 24-min video, yet I found it very inspiring and motivating. Nouman

Sorry for the interruption; I was writing when friends came to me just now, as I was actually sitting in Carslaw learning hub, a 24-hour study group section in University of Sydney. So I had to stop what I was doing and catch up a little bit with my friends.
Anyway, as I was saying just now, Nouman mentioned about how much we have to DO SOMETHING in order to find ourselves.

“Until you put yourself to work, you’re not gonna discover who you are”

This simple sentence wakes me up; I need to do something, I should not just stop doing things when I THINK I can’t do it. Hence, I will not stop doing things anymore. But, I’ll do it slowly, I won’t rush into things. I won’t get too excited. I’ve promised myself, I’m gonna do things one-by-one.

Hence, here I am. Doing things I love, though I realized that I have a long way to go in order to write good stuffs, to produce a decent writing, to inspire others and to touch people’s hearts. I still got long way to go, and yeah, I’m gonna go do it. I am going through this, whatever happens.

I’ll read more, I listen more, I write more and I’ll do more mistakes, different mistakes so that I can learn more. If Allah wills, of course.

Till then peeps, I gotta go! Back to learning semiconductor thingy again! Yeay. *wears the glass of an electrical engineering student*

Bye!

How a friendship ends?

start: 1045 15082015

Assalamualaikum and good morning.

How are you guys been? Good, hopefully. (:
This is my third attempt in updating the blog *yeah felt like a failure since I can’t even update my blog, the thing should be easy peasy. Hah!* Anywayyyyy, it has been 3 weeks plus minus 2 3 days since I’ve gotten back from Malaysia anddddd a lot are going on for me. Pheww. *note that while I’m typing this I am actually procrastinating on a video. Opss :o*
I’m not so sure of what to write here actually, so I’m just going with the flow. Hihi.  Aha! Got it. I’m gonna babble for a few minutes about friendship. Hiks.
Okay, so yesterday, a friend actually posted a picture on his Instagram asking what does ‘a friend’ means. Well, I am not going to answer that **sorry if you were excited for the answer to the question xp** however, something else crossed my mind.

How a friendship ends?

I’ve always wonder about this. I knew tonnes, I mean like seriously tonnes of people claiming that they’ll be friends forever but they are not talking to each other anymore. And it keeps me wondering if that is still considered being friends?
Once, a friend told me, “somebody, someone appears in your life to teach you something, and when it is done, they’ll be gone.”
Well, based in this sentence it does imply that there circumstances that two people can only know each other for a period of time. However, the phrase ‘they’ll be gone’, is that mean when they leave you to live their life without acknowledging your existence or they just died?
I personally knew a lot of people since I moved a lot, like really, I’ve got three schools in standard one, haha, which most of my friends I can’t even remember now. Sorry guys, I bet you don’t remember me as well! So the thing is, after all these years being friends with my friends, I still can’t see myself as a ‘good’ friend, it feels like something is missing. **this seems like outta context, let just ignore this**
So, there are couple of people whom I’ve known since standard six and we are still close like we used to, but there are also a few lot that don’t talk to me anymore, eh no, that I don’t talk to them anymore. Most likely because of distance but I still remember them, there’ll be no argument on this though. But I’ve noticed from time to time, those people still keep track of each other and sometimes, do say ‘hi’ to another. At least they wished each other ‘happy birthday’ and ‘selamat hari raya’.
I used to tell this friend of mine that I think I’ve lost a friend and he would say something like “I’ve never lose a friend, I always keep in touch with them”. Okay, to be honest, his response made me feel a lot more sad and feel so bad about it, but it made me thought of something as well – of how did I decided that “I’ve lost a friend”. Where’s the finishing line? Where’s the end? What’s the indicator?
And then, during Eid the other day, that friend actually texted me and asked how I’ve been doing lately. So, it has never ended. Though it feels superbly weird that we’re so so close and somehow things happened and we don’t talk often, I’ve just gotta believe that we’re still friends and it is okay to text each other from time to time. And sometimes, if we stopped talking ‘cause of a fight, throughout time, I still think that we should forgive each other and at least let go of the grudges.
So, how did friendship ends? Death? – A good friend always pray for another even after his friend’s death. Distance? – There’s a thing called sincere effort that tries to stay connected even though separated by distance. Wealth? Time? Destiny? Love? *oh, this one I don’t know, but boy-girl friendship can be quite complicated hihi* Work? Status?

Well, I don’t know really how a friendship would end. Do you?

Personal Statement for UCAS

Start: 13072015 0011

Hello there,

Tonight I’m having this sudden interest in sharing my experience of making a personal statement for UCAS! Yeay. Note that to apply to universities in UK through UCAS, you’ll have to send a personal statement stating what you love, who you are, your inspiration etc. After applying, the universities would consider you, and offer you a place if they’re interested with you. Of course, they’ll looked at your results, that’s definite but a personal statement is like the only way to express yourself to the admission staff.

Well, couple of days ago, my sister are asking me whether I want to sell my A-Level books or not. Since she’s now studying in Kolej MARA Seremban (KMS), she now has a lot of friends taking A-Level hence I’m so gonna have a lot of potential buyers. So, as I was going through my pile of books in the boxes *seriously there are so many notes from A-Level, I loved them that’s why I still keep them :)* , I found my drafts for my personal statement (PS). There are exactly 5 of them. Yeah, I know right. It took me 5 times to rewrite my PS to get it right.

So, my first draft is horrible. I’ve got scribblings all over the places. Oh yeah, forgot to tell you, I’ve got this lovely Ms Tay to help me with my PS. Lucky for me, she’s a Thinking Skills lecturer. So I can really say having her as my mentor surely helped me a lot, I mean come on, ‘dissecting’ an article would be her forte. So, that is basically why I had so so many marking in my PS. Haha. Moreover, my writing skills are not that good, so she totally corrected me while making sure that the PS is still originally from me.

Anyway, the thing is to write a good PS, you have to recheck your work. You have to really make sure that your arguments are not flawed. It is normal to rewrite PS for several times. And having a good mentor or somebody to check your PS, is really important. Since PS is the only way for you to tell the universities you are applying to about how passionate you are, what you’ve achieved so far etc.

I managed to get conditional offers from Manchester, Bristol and Sheffield universities. I also managed to get an interview from Imperial College London (ICL) *which I forgot to do since I was busy settling my preparations to Sydney*. So, I think my PS is quite a success.

Anyway, it was a good experience to write a PS. Since you have to really reflect know yourself,
know your limits, your desire and many more! Yeah, you can write crap and lies all the way just to make sure you look interesting, but to what extent can you lie to yourself? And not to forget, writing this PS helped me to realize the differences – more like potentials actually, that I have, which are not typical, making me realize how special I am.

That's all from me. If you want some help in writing a PS, I’ll be very delighted to give you some help. Just keep in touch and we’ll see how it goes.

Till then, goodnight.
